One Simple Way to Increase Giving this Easter

Odds are you’re putting the finishing touches on your Easter 2021 service now. Everything is lining up great- from the worship set to preaching to hospitality efforts. However, there’s likely one piece still missing. Your giving strategy.

The truth is, most church leaders try to avoid giving strategies at all costs, especially on Easter Sunday. I get it. You might find them to be overwhelming. Or maybe you think there are too many moving parts that go into one. But what if I told you this doesn’t have to be the case?

In all honesty, your giving strategy doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, it can be as simple as reminding people we give because God gave.

To help you get started, here is a simple giving strategy you can use at your church this Easter season.

Share that we give because God gave.

As you share the Good News of the Gospel this Easter, remember the heart of generosity is already front and center. You are sharing the greatest act of generosity there ever was, God giving His one and only Son. And Jesus giving His life so that we may have eternal life.

Share this message with your attendees: we give because God gave. Use bible verses to help you illustrate this Truth. Here are a few of our favorite verses that inspire generosity with God’s gift to us:

  • John 3:16 “For God so loves the world that He gave His only begotten Son for whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” It’s a verse that most of us are familiar with, whether we learned it in Sunday school growing or you’ve seen it out and about in your everyday life.
  • Matthew 20:28 tells us, “that the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
  • The Scriptures also reveal that Jesus “humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on the cross (Philippians 2:8).”

God willingly gave His son motivated by love. Jesus willingly gave His life motivated by love. The reality is we love because God first loved us. And we give because God first gave. Reflecting on this reality helps us not only be grateful for Jesus’ sacrifice, but also motivates us to give freely and sacrificially.

Lay Roots before your Easter Service.

Before your Easter service, send an email to your attendees. Remind them of the true generosity that is on display during this season. Here is a direct message you can share with your congregation prior to your Easter Sunday service:

This Easter, we remember the death and resurrection of Jesus. But in the midst of Easter egg hunts and family pictures, how much do we really think about what was sacrificed?

Something happens when we remember that God willingly and freely, out of His love for humanity, gave His Son (John 3:16).  And Jesus humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death on the cross (Philippians 2:7-8). What radical love and generosity on full display. We love because He first loved us. We give because He first gave.

As we invite you to give this Easter weekend, we pray that God’s love and generosity towards you motivates you to love and give freely and sacrificially. Everything we give has been first given to us!

Begin to lay the roots before your Easter service even begins with email communication. Share this message with your congregation to help inspire them to invite others and examine their own generosity.

Communication and Repetition are key.

Share this message (we give because He first gave) often and through different platforms. Share Bible verses that hit on this topic in your offering moment, during the worship set, or from the pulpit while preaching. Emphasize generosity in your weekly church emails (both pre-Easter and post Easter.) Include an insert in your April quarterly giving statement to encourage others to give generously like Christ.

You’re probably going to feel like a broken record at some point. But that’s good! Our general rule of thumb is: if you feel like you’re over communicating, you’re probably communicating just enough. So keep talking!

During the Easter season, there is an incredible opportunity to invite people into the heart of generosity. This makes a giving strategy even more crucial to the church. Make sure you have a plan in place this Easter Sunday to inspire your attendees to embrace the generosity of Christ.
